George Awdry (10 August 1916 - 27 October 1994) was Wilbert Awdry's younger brother, Margaret's brother-in-law, Christopher, Veronica, and Hilary's uncle, the great uncle of Richard, Simon, Rachel, and Sara and a son of Lucy and Vere Awdry.
A librarian for the Institute of Mining and the National Liberal Club, George's interests included being a member of the British Interplanetary Society and the Richard III Society. In contrast to his older brother's staunch pacifism, George was involved in clandestine operations during the Second World War, making important contributions during debriefings through his fluency in German. The precise nature of these operations is ultimately unknown.
He wrote The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways with Wilbert.
